Sunday 17th November 2013

Last Sunday saw Dream Fencing Club field three teams for the Wimbledon Team Epee completion.

Our team of three for the U9 age group were Maja Kazmierczak 9, Mathieu Arnaud 8, Travis Shoosmith 9.  All set out with a great attitude and fought well.  Their fighting spirit was rewarded by the result, as the team picking up the bronze medal.

Our U11 B team were Sebastian Martens 11, Lily Madgwick 10 and Toby Burton 11.  The team found the opposition to be tough but learnt a huge amount from the outing and had a good number of fights.

Our U11 A team comprised, 9 years old fencers Muhammed and Ibraheem Farnsworth and 10 year old Alexandre Arnaud.

The whole team fought well, but on this occasion Alexandre deserves a special mention for the nail biting conclusion he delivered in the last fight of the semi-final.

Alexandre notched up 10 hits in a row, taking the score from 35:40 against, to a winning total of 45:44 and the silver medal.

As they say in Galaxy Quest, ‘Never give up, never surrender!’  Really well done boys.

It’s great to see the teams fight well and yet still have more to give.  With more practice, and by adopting some of the determination showed by Alexandre, let’s set our sights on winning some gold in 2014.
