Nicola fought really well in the poule stages winning 5 out of her 6 fights.
5-1, 5-1, 5-3, 5-4, 5-2 only losing one fight to Rebecca Mayle 4-3 who had beaten her into second place in the Sussex Open last month. Nicola came through the poule seeded 6th and entered the last 32 with a bye.
Some unranked but well known pentathlon athletes, who had entered the event this year, fought well leading to some surprising results including the knocking out the top seed before the last 8.
Nicola’s first DE fight against Sophie Townsend saw Sophie call a ten minute injury time when Nicola was 11-9 up. Luckily or through skill and concentration, Nicola stayed focused and got 3 single lights when the fight restarted.
Nicola’s next DE was against Sam Reddin ranked in the top twenty. To her delight Nicola secured a comfortable win, leading her through to the last 8. Nicola then came up against a very strong and determined Jess Osbaldeston who was unstoppable. Following her fight with Nicola, Jess went on and was delighted to win her first open competition.
Brilliant work from Nicola who not only secured a 7th place in the open competition but won 1st place in the vets concurrent competition.
